History and Heritage
The Percy family has owned Alnwick Castle and the barony for over 700 years.
In their ownership is also Syon House in London, Warkworth Castle and Prudhoe Castle in Northumberland, Hulne Park and Priory at Alnwick, the Albury Estate in Surrey and a number of other listed buildings. Hence the historical assets of The Northumberland Estates are significant.
An extensive and important collection of fine art, china and furniture, including many works of historic significance represent further historical assets. The maintenance and restoration of these historic properties and chattels is an important part of the business’ philosophy but also a significant cost. The outlay on restoration and repairs at Alnwick Castle alone is in the region of £1 million per annum.
