Today saw the official opening of the new Aldi store in Alnwick. Mayor of Alnwick, Bill Grisdale, cut the ribbon and 100 lucky customers with a golden ticket received prizes ranging from a widescreen TV to tablets and bags of shopping.
Katrina Robertson, from Embleton, was first in the queue, having been there since midnight. Her reward was a 42-inch television, presented by store manager, Kyle Davis.
Northumberland Estates has worked hard over a number of years to obtain planning and bring this popular retailer to the town. Not only does it further expanding the retail offer in Alnwick, but will draw more shoppers into the town for the benefit of all. Standing at 1,125 sq m, the store, which has car parking for 100, has also created 25 new jobs.
James Porritt, Area manager for Aldi explained that moving into rural market towns such as Alnwick was new territory for the company. He was delighted by the initial response which saw hundreds turn out for the official opening – a much larger crowd than expected.
