The Duchess of Northumberland in her role as Lord Lieutenant today welcomed six brave wounded veterans to Alnwick Castle as a part of their 1,000 mile walk across the country to raise money for the charity Walking With the Wounded (WWTW).
Past ventures by WWTW include taking veterans to the North and South poles and to Everest. Their latest venture is the Walk of Britain (WOB) and this time they are walking each day amongst the public, taking their message direct and allowing them to be part of the adventure. The WOB which started on Saturday, 22 Aug in Scotland will finish on 1 Nov at Buckingham Palace and the team of six wounded (4 British, 2 US) will walk for the whole 10 weeks.
After staying at Chillingham Castle their Northumberland leg of the trip saw them walking from Eglingham to Amble. At Alnwick Castle where they were given a warm reception by members of the public as well as the Duchess . According to the team the support they received in Alnwick was phenomenal, making their total for the day the highest to date in terms of donations.
Their trip through the North East is sponsored by Virgin Money and anyone wishing to donate can do so through this Virgin Money link. Follow their progress as they continue towards London on Facebook and Twitter and spread the word with #supportthewalk.
