Northumberland Estates Trails
Alnwick lies in the heart of some beautiful countryside, none more so than the historic Parkland which surrounds the Castle itself created by Capability Brown.
The Northumberland Estates who owns and manages much of this land has devised a number of circular routes or varying distances, where the paths are clearly marked and easy to use. This guide highlights four areas which are available for you to explore on foot with some cycle access. Individual downloads of each map are available by clicking on the walks in the left menu.
A number of the routes shown on the maps are not existing public rights of way and therefore access is granted as a permissive right at the discretion of The Northumberland Estates. The Estate is involved in many conservation projects, the result of which will enable users of the trails to enjoy rare sightings of species such as red squirrels, grey partridge and many other types of wildlife. We also have a duty of care to the farmers whose land these paths cross as well as the users. We therefore ask that for both conservation and safety reasons users respect the wildlife and abide by the Countryside Code by keeping to the marked footpaths, shutting gates behind them, keeping dogs under strict control and taking their litter home.
Information relating to the use of the individual trails is provided in a text box on the map boards.
